Respiratory Therapist (CRT/RRT), PRN Job Opening

SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Administers all therapy modalities to all age groups per physicians orders.
• Is responsible for the initiation, operation, monitoring and weaning of patients with mechanical ventilators.
• Performs arterial puncture and blood gas analysis.
• Responds to all code blue situations for assigned areas.
• Assists in the transport of ventilator and critically ill patients.
• Participates in staffing needs.
• Checks all physician orders prior to therapy and gives thorough, accurate report to oncoming shift.
• Enters all patient contacts into Meditech.
• Participates in all areas of departmental duties, including assistance in new employee orientation and continuing education.
• Performs regular equipment rounds.
• Initiates and documents patient teaching including family and/or significant others. Uses appropriate Patient Education documentation modality.
• Other duties as assigned.
  

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE:

• One year adult critical care experience. Strong clinical skills in mechanical ventilation, blood gas analysis and oximetry.(preferred)

EDUCATION:

• Graduate of accredited program of Respiratory Therapy or equivalent (required)
  
  

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

• Current Virginia Respiratory Therapy license. Certified by the National Board of Respiratory Therapy.(required)
• American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Healthcare Provider upon hire or within 90 days of employment.(required)
• American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) upon hire or within 180 days of employment (required)
• PALS, NRP, CPFT (preferred)
