The Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, is recruiting for a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor II/III located in Anchorage!
The position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a range 17/19.

The mission of DVR is to assist adults and transition aged youths with disabilities to obtain and maintain employment. Employment contributes to a person's ability to live independently, and DVR believes that every person has the right to work. Duties:
Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors are responsible for assisting persons with disabilities that create barriers to employment obtain/retain employment. They conduct comprehensive interviews, collect and interpret medical/psychological evaluations, correlate limitations presented by disabilities to work related barriers, and determine employment readiness. They provide guidance and counseling, and synthesize labor market information with client's strengths and abilities to jointly determine a vocational goal and the services needed to achieve that goal.

This position is a member of a team providing in-house vocational rehabilitation services. Duties include a special emphasis on working and collaborating with employers to develop opportunities for job placements for people with disabilities. This includes assessing employer and client needs to ensure appropriate job matches for the employer and employee. In addition, this position will need to assess client abilities, capabilities, and skills. Key duties include a considerable presence in the community working with a network of private, state, and federal professionals, employers, and hiring managers. Tasks require completing reports using the AWARE case management system.

We are looking to hire an individual with the following knowledge, skills, and abilities (please note that you will need to highlight these strengths in your cover letter. Please see the "additional required information" section for further instructions):
  • Knowledge of target population, including physical and mental impairments and their effects on vocational and social adjustment;
  • Knowledge of psychological tests and other evaluative techniques;
  • Knowledge of techniques and principles of diagnostic interviewing;
  • Knowledge of counseling and placement of persons with vocational/occupational impediments;
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and community programs providing services to persons with disabilities;
  • Caseload management experience;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to delegate tasks when necessary;
  • Commitment to excellent customer service, exceptional interpersonal skills, and the ability to develop positive relationships with co-workers, consumers, and to accept supervision; and
  • A dedication to lifelong learning in relationship to their own professional development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor II ($4,441.00/month)
A master's degree from an accredited college in vocational rehabilitation, psychology, social work, guidance counseling, special education, or a closely related counseling discipline, which includes coursework on the Theories and Techniques of Counseling.

Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor III ($5,118.00/month)
A Certification in Rehabilitation Counseling (CRC) from the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification.
