    Duties

    Summary

    The Primary Care Physician works as a member of a multidisciplinary heath care team, collaborating with other members of the team to provide medical care to veterans enrolled on the team.

    Responsibilities

    The Primary Care Physician is expected to demonstrate advance competencies and skills in assessing the physical and psychological status of patients. He/she will provide comprehensive patient assessment, health history, physical examination, and patient education to veterans in the Primary Care team setting. As a Physician you will provide prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill and injured veterans. Duties include documenting observations, assessments, chronically and acutely and changes in patient's condition; collaborating with other health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes; providing a full range of care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavior problems; and accountable for meeting and maintaining the qualification standards and functional statements of assigned grade. Our facility is seeking individuals who possess good organizational skills which enable completion of work, a demonstrated ability to assume leadership in a patient centered program, and the ability to establish effective communication with patients, families, visitors and members of the interdisciplinary team.

    Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Schedule may change based on needs of the service (Can be discussed during the interview with the manager). Some evenings and weekends may be required based on the needs of the service.

    Occasional travel - Occasional travel may be required to support other Clinics or Community Based Out-Patient Clinics (CBOCs).

    Qualifications

    To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/31/2019.
    Basic Requirements:
    • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
    • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered above, the education must me certified with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that applicant has met requirements for certification.
    • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
    • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
    • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

    Preferred Experience: Completion of an Internal Medicine, Primary Care or Family Care residency program.

    Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.

    Physical Requirements: Satisfactory physical examination as determined by the Employee Health Unit upon appointment only. See VA Directive and Handbook 5019 ( http://vaww1.va.gov/ ohrm / HRLibrary /Dir-Policy.htm ). Functional requirements include moderate lifting 15-44 lbs, moderate carrying 15-44 lbs, pushing up to 1 hour, walking and standing for 2-4 hours, reaching above shoulders, both hands and both legs required, use of fingers, use of rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, both eyes required, ability to read type written characters (correctable vision acceptable), ability to distinguish basic colors, ability to distinguish shades of colors, hearing (aid permitted), and mental and emotional stability.
