Position Description:
The Registered Respiratory Therapist performs respiratory care interventions in accordance with the standards established by the American Association of Respiratory Care Clinical Practice Guidelines and OMC Respiratory Care Policy. Under the supervision of the Director/Supervisor and upon a physician's order, the Registered Respiratory Therapist assesses the cardiopulmonary status of patients of all ages (neonate through geriatric) and provides various types of respiratory diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, based on individual patient needs. An integral function of this position is providing patient education to enhance wellness.

Position Requirements:
Education:
2 Year / Associate Degree Respiratory Therapy in an accredited college or university required
4 Year / Bachelors Degree Respiratory Therapy, Math, or Science Field preferred

Experience:
Graduate from an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program who has obtained the RRT credential required
1 - 3 Years Working as an RRT in a hospital setting preferred
3 - 5 Years Working as an RRT in a hospital setting; experience in adult critical care and emergency department patient care preferred

Knowledge, Skills:

Required:

Analytical - Able to assess complicated patient care scenarios including subjective assessment and objective evaluation of a variety of data made available from monitors and test results
Ability to Multi Task and Prioritize - Able to assess the cardiopulmonary status of patients of all ages (neonate through geriatric) and provide various types of respiratory diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, based on individual patient needs.
Ability to provide expert respiratory assistance in critical/emergent situations involving life support decisions and actions.
Computer Systems - Specifically Cerner clinical software, Siemens RapidComm Blood Gas Lab software and Microsoft Office

License, Registration and/or Certification:
Respiratory Therapy Licensure by the state of Kansas required upon hire
Healthcare Provider CPR – (American Heart Association ONLY) required upon hire
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required upon hire
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required within 90 Days
