The Unit Clerk is responsible for providing administrative, clerical and receptionist support to the department. Essential Job Duties:
Maintains communication, organization and management of assigned workAnswers telephones, takes accurate messages and communicates messages to the appropriate person in a timely mannerReceives, greets and directs patients, visitors, and hospital personnel providing accurate responses in a friendly, courteous mannerActs as a nursing station host, extending courtesies to the patients, visitors, families and staffDemonstrates clerical receptionist and secretarial tasks, including accurate and timely chart managementWhen appropriate, verifies physician orders and/or alerts nursing staff to new ordersSchedules follow-up appointments for patients who are being dischargedIn collaboration with the nurse, prints pertinent patient educational documentsAssists in the admission and discharge procedures, including changes in stay type and updates the EHR as appropriateCompletes the EMResource Daily Bed PollEnters daily patient charges
Other Duties:
Ensures all office equipment is in proper working order and if not, notifies the IS Help DeskEnsures adequate supplies are available and equipment is stockedResponds to patient call system as indicatedAttends 75% of scheduled staff meetings and attends ALL mandatory trainings and/or meetingsAttends in-service training and education sessions, as assignedPerforms specific work duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisorAssists in orientation of new staff to clerical duties of the nursing unitAssists patients as needed within scope of job responsibilitiesOther duties as assigned based on WCH needs or requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Administrative and or Clerical experience required
Knowledge of medical terminology required
One year current experience highly desired
Basic computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook e-mail
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift and carry up to 10 lbs.
